My inspiration in this artwork was the movement of expressionism. With the particular strokes that this movement does made it easier for me to paint the feathers in the bird. The beak and the area of the eye was not done that way though. I wanted to get some shadowing in the painting as well.
My inspiration for this art piece was the Aztec tribe. The Aztec tribe is a Mexican Indian tribe. What I painted is a Penacho which is a group of feathers from a bird used in the head. They were worn by important leaders in the tribes. Sometimes Penachos are made of feather that are all the same. But most of the time you see penachos that have all types of feathers of course with a certain pattern.
What inspired me to paint this artwork was the Native culture and the Catholic religion. I am Catholic myself and I am very familiar with the story of Adam and Eve and the forbidden fruit. I wanted to do something that show the native culture because I believe that they deserve to be shown off and respected. They have many believes and most people don't follow. For example Native people believe in different Gods.
For this artwork my inspiration was Frida Kahlo's painting, My Dress Hangs There. This time I wanted to paint something that didn't have a lot of meaning like my other artworks. Everything that I have done relates to my culture or to something that has more depth to it. This time I wanted something different.

I painted a red macaw because of their bright colors they stand out from any other bird. That is what we are trying to do, we as humans don't want to be the same as the others. That is why we try to do things different, dress different, act different, we want to stand out and be different from the crowd.
This painting also represents the freedom and or liberty that teenagers want. We want to be able to go out more. Birds, at least to me, represent that, freedom. They are free to go where ever they want. Birds do have responsibilities as well just like us, but we rather avoid them.
Catholic people believe there is only one God. These two things are very contradictory to each other. They are very different believes that maybe will make people mad; mad at the fact that I put together these two believes. I believe that every religion and/or belief should be admired and respected. The snake is creating a circle that is a part of dream catcher. The snake is the one that led Eve to the forbidden fruit. She then took Adam and persuade him to give in the temptation. Dream catchers are suppose to be hung in your bedroom where you sleep. They are suppose to catch your bad dreams and keep them trapped their. With my piece the Adam and Eve scenario can be portrayed as the bad dream that is trapped in the dream catcher.
For this artwork I kept the dress in the middle of the painting just like Frida did. I did change the dress though. I did not want it to be a traditional Mexican dress. Instead I painted a more modern dress. Something that I believe can worn in bot the day and night. In Frida's painting you can see that she painted elements from the United States and from Mexico as well. At that point of her life she was living in the United States but she was homesick. She wanted to go back to Mexico. In my painting I just painted one side as daylight and the other side as night time.

I don't want it anymore
|
This artwork was inspired by Frida Kahlo's painting Henry Ford Hospital. For my last piece I wanted to change it and not paint. I drew everything and added color with color pencils. It was harder to blend colors together but some how it worked. Kahlo's painting inspired me because her art pieces always portray something very meaningful. This is when her on died because it was born. It was something horrible that happen to her and she painted her sadness.

I wanted to portray something that I believe is really sad as well. Frida lost her kid, but she did want it. In my painting you can see that there is a bed with scissors. The string looking thing, is to portray an umbilical cord. The cord is attached to a baby that has no face. It is mimicking a balloon because they always go up. Being Catholic myself I believe that there is a heaven. The little babies that don't even get to be born are little angels that go straight to heaven. Many teens that have a baby on "accident" don't want it anymore and so they decide to abort. The baby in my drawing has no face because since they are killed, they don't get the opportunity to have an identity.
This is something that I believe is extremely sad and should be stop. |
